Kelder is the name; here to talk about fantasy hoops for the beloved Bulls. You may have seen my work on Razzball, but my true passion and one true team is the Bulls. I was a fan when MJ was drafted, lived and loved the 90s, and laughed at the foibles the AK administration has foisted upon us.
As far as writing credentials go, my last sentence had two words starting with "foi," so I must be good, right?
If you play fantasy hoops, you have to disassociate yourself a bit from who you like or dislike. For example, I am NOT a LaVine guy, but he does have some juiciness. I’m gonna do my best here to list the guards, their strengths and weaknesses, and how I would draft them. Later, I will cover forwards and centers.
LaVine: My issue with drafting him is that you’ll have to overlook the gaudy points and scoring numbers and might end up overdrafting him. He will provide elite, top-ten points and percentages. However, you will have to make up for steals and assists from other guards, particularly point guards, who will outperform him in a major way.
LaVine and Bam would be a tremendous combo if you can pair them up, as long as you get an elite point guard with them. I’m not saying he doesn’t have value, but you will have to be mindful of addressing his inherent weaknesses as a scoring-only guard.
Jevon Carter: If only "being a pure dawg" were a category… I expect Carter to be the starting PG. On Milwaukee as a starter, he averaged 9-3-3 with a steal and a 3 per game, give or take a decimal. That would be my baseline expectation, making him a solid late-round flyer. His upside is capped for assists due to isolation tendencies, and he won’t be a traditional PG with the ball in his hands. Threes and steals are what you’ll want him for as a late utility slot guy.
Coby White: I liked him a lot more until Ayo signed; now I’m thinking about the minutes. If White starts, he’ll be good for some threes and points, but he doesn’t have the passing chops for much more playmaking. He’s more of a playmaker for himself. I’m not targeting White. I think his percentages are going down, and his assists leave something to be desired.
Pay attention to the minutes for Carter, White, and Ayo. It’s entirely possible that they cannibalize each other. Of course, that would help the last man standing if they eat themselves, but the injuries would be an unfortunate side product.
Let me Google something… oh, by cannibalize, I meant none of them get the minutes to contribute consistently.
I’m betting on Carter, but if you like White, by all means, get the guy.
